I thought that the wedding was just beautiful. You did such a wonderful job working with Mark and I. The wedding was exactly what I had wanted. We have watched the video, and I'm still just so happy with everything.
I really thought that the people you hired were just great. I loved the minister, the caterers, and the musicians. I would like their e-mail addresses so I can thank them personally. What was really neat about the people that you hired was that they seemed very personally connected and 'in' the actually wedding. I remember speaking and looking out and seeing people that I didn't know 'total strangers' that were looking at me, listening, teary-eyed. I had been late to the wedding, so I hadn't had the opportunity to meet anyone yet.
The minister really did a nice job allowing us to just talk more informally. That's what made our wedding unique and intimate. He was a very dear man.
The music was so good, our guest moved their chairs over to them at just listen to the music under the stars. No one wanted them to stop. No one even missed dance music or liquor . we all just drank in the music! It was just lovely.
I really loved the location. It was so intimate. When we went to Ted's and I saw the wedding photos of all the beach sunset weddings, I was so glad that we chose the P'ua Laua Estate. The rock walls and steps just frame the wedding party perfectly for the photos. I will send you some when I get them.

I have been back in Texas for almost three months since our wedding in Maui, and not one day goes by without a thought about our happy day. We had the most beautiful wedding; one I will never forget. And I have to thank Ellen Chatillon and A Simply Elegant Wedding for making our dreams for our special day come true. Here is a review!
When we first decided to get married in Maui, I freaked out a bit. Who the heck would do everything? Tickets are too expensive to go to the island just to 'check it out,' so I needed to find someone I could trust 100% without ever meeting this person. My search began. It took me about three weeks to decide. I contacted about 20 wedding coordinators via email, and only about 10 responded. I work a lot, and email is definitely the way to go with me. Out of those 10 coordinators, only five or less seemed to respond quickly enough, and only one of those coordinators seemed to care enough about me, and what I wanted. This person was Ellen. From day one I felt a 'weird' connection with her. We talked over the phone ONCE during the entire wedding planning stage. She strongly encourages you to call her, but I never felt I needed to. We had email, and we literally would email each other at least twice a day. I never felt intimidated about emailing her too much. She encourages you to contact her if you have ANY question. I completely trusted the woman: she asked the right questions' she really tried to figure out what I wanted.
So the planning began. I told her what I wanted everything to look like. My wedding colors were ivory and blue (my engagement ring has a diamond in the middle and one sapphire on each side, so I wanted to keep the theme), and Ellen did everything she could to bring that theme to life. Everything was done.
Now to what matters: our wedding day. I literally just sat there. Sebrina, the make-up and hair artist, did such a good job I did not want to put my hair down when everything was over. I have always been afraid of putting too much make-up on and not looking myself. That is all I had to tell Sebrina. She understood exactly what I wanted, and she put up with me asking dozens to questions. My hair and make-up were definitely the highlight of day. It went so well with my wedding dress. I felt beautiful.
Let me just put it this way: I was not nervous at all until I realized the wind was so strong I thought we were all going to just fly away. Our wedding was outside. I wasn't too worried about my hair because Sebrina made it 'Maui Proof,' and not one little hair moved the whole day. But we planned on having an arch of flowers on the sand, and everyone would gather around that. Ellen had come up with this great idea about an arch of flowers with flowers that we could remove later to put on the tables (for decoration) in the restaurant we were having the reception. Well, with the wind that strong, we couldn't use the flowers. So Ellen comes up and asks me what I wanted to do. She gave me a few options. And we went from there. And the wind slowed down to a nice breeze, it was perfect!
I walked in with my dad and had the best time of my life. The music was playing (Ellen hired a guitarist for us). The preacher (Jean Pierre) was fun, and he did our wedding just like we wanted. Ted and his son (with Steelman Studios) took a bunch of pictures and made us feel like the highlight of the day. And WOW. Those pictures turned out excellent! they were the best wedding pictures I've seen. They are so extremely good at what they do. They tell you exactly what to do, and at the time you think to yourself: what the heck are we doing? But when the picture came out, I was out of breath. Those are by far the best pictures my husband and I have of us. Steelman studios was also very quick in developing the pictures, so we ended up taking all our pictures home with us. I strongly recommend getting a photographer who will do that because once you get home, everyone wants to see your pictures. It was extremely nice to have everything with us. Thanks again, Steelman studios!
But Ellen also recommended that we hired someone to videotape the wedding. And my, oh my, are we glad we listed to Ellen. For the people who did not come with us to Maui, the video (or DVD, we got both) was the best thing. Every time someone watches our video it feels like they finally feel like they were a part of our special day because they witness every minute of the ceremony. Our video artist was Dan McMahon with DMI Studios. Dan was so easy to work with. I wanted to include our baby/childhood pictures in our video, and he told us everything we needed to do to help him create a work of art. Dan is extremely sweet, and he even met with us to give us the video and the DVDs right before we went to the airport (on the day we left Maui). Dan is the nicest guy you'll meet. He is always smiling, and he does everything he can to create a video that will depict who the couple is. During the shoot, he asked what we wanted. so we had the cutting of the cake on tape, the garter scene, and even the entire wedding party smiling and doing the shaka. It was great. Our wedding video truly depicts how beautiful and fun our wedding day was.
We had our reception at the Five Palms restaurant. The food was delicious. And Ellen took care of everything. We didn't have to worry about leaving and having to pay anything extra. She took care of it. Having her was the highlight of my wedding. I look at all my friends who do everything themselves, and they keep complaining about how stressed out they are. that they can't find exactly what they want. Heck! just get a wedding coordinator. She was worth every penny, and I didn't have to worry about a thing.
But Ellen is a lot more than just a wedding coordinator. She is a jack-of-all-trades. She hooked us up with a super condo in Kihei (and one of the most affordable ones too). And she told us who had the best prices for car rentals. Once we arrived, she called me at the condo to let me know where we could eat some affordable food, what we should not miss on the island, and then she asked, 'Mel' what do you guys want to do? Well! We really wanted to go diving. I ran out of time in Texas to set all this up (you never have as much time before your wedding as you think you do). But that was no problem! Ellen knows just about everyone in Maui. She hooked us up with two excellent days of diving. And if we wanted anything else, all we had to do was ask.
I felt like I had a friend, not just a wedding coordinator. And I can't wait for a few years to pass so my hubby and I can go back to Maui and maybe renew our vows. Maui is the most beautiful place on this earth'it's magical. But Maui was by far extremely magical because I didn't have to worry about anything. I had maps, I had directions, and I had a person I could call 24 hours a day if I needed anything.
Our wedding day and our stay in Maui were unforgettable because one person managed to get a whole team of experts to make not only our wedding day special but also our entire stay in Maui.
